State Of The Art Facilities

The Spastics Society of Tiruchirapalli is functioning in a state-of-the-art international standard building with latest facilities to meet each and every need of a child with disabilities. It is a barrier free environment which enables children with Cerebral Palsy to move about safely & freely while using the facilities within the built environment. The goal of barrier free design is to provide an environment that supports the independent functioning of individuals so that they can get to, and participate without assistance in everyday activities.

Some of the special features of barrier free design are ramp, handrails on the wall, vision panel on the doors, counters and washbasins with knee space for wheelchair users to pull up, toilets with grab bars, well-illuminated corridors, lift, generator & solar heater, fire safety equipment, indoor pool for hydrotherapy, conference hall, auditorium etc. There is no doubt that it is a perfect disabled friendly environment where persons with disabilities can reach the zenith of their potentialities helped by warm & friendly people who provide excellent training & professional care for them.

Delightful Shoppy

This is the first of its kind in this part of India where special materials needed for training with suitable modifications for special children are sold at a particular place. This unique venture of the Spastics Society of Tiruchirapalli christened as Delightful Shoppy, was born out of necessity as these things are rarely available in the open market and even if they are available, it is quite difficult to get these items all under one roof. Again there are certain materials which need to be modified for its practical utility.

Considering these factors, the starting of a special shop has certainly become a boon for the parents. The materials that are available in the shop can be bought and used for promoting sensory stimulation, fine motor & gross motor skills, speech & communication and activities of daily living. Apart from these, aids & appliances needed for enhancing cognition skills are also available.

Indoor Pool For Hydrotherapy

One of the important facilities that is available at Trichy Centre is an indoor pool where hydrotherapy is being offered for children with Cerebral Palsy. Hydrotherapy is nothing but aquatic therapy in which treatment is given inside the water. Since water is an excellent medium of intervention, it can be both fun and therapeutic. Treatment inside the water provides countless opportunities to experience, learn and enjoy new movement skills which further adds to increased functional skills, mobility and self-confidence. Pool heater fitted at this unit provides continuous flow of warm water maintained at a temperature of 92 to 96°F.

Toy Library

A well-stocked Toy Library is being maintained at Trichy Centre. Toys are being lent to the parents to allow these to be used by the children at home. A very nominal fee is being charged.
