Raja is a 7-year-old boy, quite active and cheerful like any other boy of his age. He is at times mischievous, too. But when you come to see him, he won’t look at your face. Is he too shy to see you? Certainly not. But he has poor head-control, which makes it difficult for him to lift up his head to see you. When you ask his name, even though he opens his mouth to speak, no word comes out of it. This is because he has involuntary movements of lips and facial grimaces. When you give him a toy to play with, he finds it difficult to take it, for he has incoordination in the hands, which prevents him from reaching for the toy and holding it in the hand.

At school, supported by special aids and regular therapy, he is learning to write his name and also does some number work. He is learning money concept. He learns to dress, eat and to use the toilet. Children like Raja are being helped towards a life in which they can help themselves. The mother of Raja says that it was a long and arduous walk for her to reach this destination. She was happy to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Now she has a glimpse of a bright future for the boy. The credit for instilling the confidence in her goes to a kind-hearted donor who has come forward to provide financial support for the child’s training and education.
