EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAMME

In the Early Intervention Centre, children with CP below 6 years of age are admitted. In this training programme, the parents stay along with the children at the centre and impart the training under the guidance of special educators and therapists.
Since this programme is based on normal child development, focus will be given on the development of motor milestones in their proper sequential order by applying the techniques of Neuro-Developmental Therapy and Sensory Integration Therapy.

DAY CARE PROGRAMME

In the Day Care Programme, children with CP between 7 and 20 years of age are admitted. This program is based on Holistic Approach that includes medical care, therapy, special education and vocational training.

HOME MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

This programme is a home-based programme in which parents come from far off places, bringing their children with CP for assessment and programming. The training methods and techniques are taught to the parents, who practice these at home, coming to the centre once in a fortnight for further guidance.

RURAL HABILITATION PROGRAMME

Rural Residential Centres are functioning at four places namely Musir, Lalgudi, Thuraiyur and Manaparai. The children at these centres are trained in accordance with the environment prevailing in the villages and the child’s individual living situation.

COMMUNITY BASED REHAILITATION PROGRAMME

Community Based Rehabilitation is being practiced to reach out to children with disabilities living in the villages located at the remote corners of the district. Apart from rehabilitation services, children are being helped to get benefits in the form of maintenance grant, aids & appliances etc., provided by the state government through District Rehabilitation Centre.

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

Children with mild and moderate degree of disabilities are being encouraged to get into mainstream education and study under Inclusive Education setup. Regular follow up visits are being made by special educators to schools to review the progress & performance of children and suggest suitable remedial measures if any is needed.

NEWBORN SCREENING

Newborn Screening is a method of screening and identifying babies who are born with high risk factors and are likely to be affected with any type of disability, if not identified at an early stage and provided with early interventions. The therapists and special educators of the Spastics Society make regular weekly visits to Government Headquarters Hospital, Triuchirapalli and conduct Newborn Screening.
